Sitting in a mexician food restaurant in Kerrville, it occurred to me that Gene, Pablo, Larry, my dad, me and all my friends were suppose to grow old And gray together. We were all going to sit around and talk about the old days and get advice from one another and laugh about the stupid things we did and lament about the bad times. Maybe wind up like the pic of the two old guys that limped in here on their canes obviously old pals that had countless stories. Ok, maybe limping in on canes was never part of the picture but you get the idea.
I was in Luckenbach today and took a picture of Gene's and Pablo's license plates that are nailed up behind the stage and posted a verse and a chorus of a song I'm working on for Gene to FB
" You'll be there in the sunrise and the gentle rain
Out across the mountains and through the dusty plains
And when we stop in Luckenbach, at a table in the shade
You'll be there in the live oaks and the music being played
So, here's to you my old friend
To the days we dressed in black
And all the miles we ever traveled
I knew you always had my back"
